England To Play Kiwis In Denver

England Rugby League will face New Zealand during the mid-season international break on Saturday, June 23 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, USA (capacity over 76,000). The fixture is the first of three over three consecutive seasons that the two sides have agreed to play in the US.

Moore Sports International, the promoters of the international fixture and the organisation behind the successful north America RLWC2025 bid, confirmed this week that Wayne Bennett’s squad will travel to America in June to take on a Kiwi side looking to make up for an early exit from last year’s World Cup.

This will be the first time in 18 years that England have played a game in the USA since taking on the national side in Orlando in October 2000.

A large proportion of both teams will be available as there is also a lull in NRL fixtures due to State of Origin games in Australia. There was immediate resistance from the Rugby League Players Association about the suitability of the fixture and reluctance of NRL teams to support the game.

"The RLPA has held further discussions recently with the New Zealand Rugby League, however we still require further information and clarity on a number of concerning areas regarding the test match in Denver," CEO Clint Newton was reported to have said.
