Barrow Raiders announced on Wednesday (4th July) the departure of chairman, David Sharpe and fellow director Dawn Knowles.

David became a director for the first time in 2011, later assuming the role of chairman in 2012. On returning to the board in the autumn of 2017, at a time when the club was again in financial difficulties and firm leadership was required.

In a statement to fellow board members David said “it had been very difficult to refuse the request to return to the board as chairman in the club’s hour of need. The task of allocating sufficient time to running both the club and my own business has proved to be even greater than I had envisaged”.

Further to an appeal for financial support from new directors and fans alike last week, he now believes the club would benefit from fresh leadership and new board members in order to move forward.

So far, the Raiders' “JustGiving” page has raised more than £4,000 of its £25,000 target in less than a week, with match-going supporters being encouraged to bring one new person with them to the team's remaining home games to help keep gates above an average of 1,200.
