Former Wasps chief executive David Armstrong has been linked with filling the CEO role at Ulster Rugby by the Belfast Telegraph.

The Ulsterman oversaw Wasps’ move from High Wycombe to Coventry and was instrumental in the purchase of the Ricoh Arena stepped down in 2017 but has remained on the board at Wasps. He is thought to be a strong candidate to land the top job on a permanent basis after Shane Logan’s departure at the end of August.

Prominent businessman Dr David Dobbin is currently installed as chief executive on a part-time basis during the ongoing recruitment process.

The Telegraph also suggested former Ulster and Ireland players Paul Shields, Gordon Hamilton and Philip Rainey were in the running, as well as Rob Saunders, who played for London Irish and Ireland.

Meanwhile, Shane Logan is to take charge of one of Northern Ireland's biggest social enterprises.

Mr Logan will step into the role at Bryson Group next month, leading a team of more than 900 employees across the group's six companies.
